4. Arrange the following statements in a chronological order by writing number (1-6) beside the item number in one answer booklet provided.
(i) Bartholomew Diaz was the Portuguese explorer who founded the Southern tip of Africa and arrives at the cape in 1488.
(ii) The hostile relations between the British and the Boers led to the main historical event known as the Great Boers trek between 1835 to 1840'S
(iii) The discovery of diamond at Kimberly in 1867 and gold at Witwatersrand in 1886 opened the new economic opportunity of South Africa.
(iv) The British occupied the cape in 1795 and ended the dominance of Dutch East Indian Company in the region.
(v) The First and Second Anglo-Boers wars made the British to extent her dominance to the whole of South Africa.

6. In the late of 18th and 19th centuries, the British were determined to take control of the Cape of Good Hope because of strategic position on the sea route between Europe and Asia. Explain six tactics used by British to occupy the Cape of Good Hope.

7. (a) Explain, with three points, how the colonial economic system in Kenya shaped the nature and character of the independence struggle in that country.
(b) As a Form Four student, prepare a debate on the differences between colonial and pre-colonial economies, provide three points to support your discussion.
(c) Ngalebe, an 89-year-old illiterate woman, narrates past cultural events to her 25-year-old grandchild. Give three reasons why such oral accounts are considered unreliable sources of historical information

8. A European historian explained that after establishing colonial rule in Africa, European powers introduced different economic systems to insure maximum profits for their home countries. As a good historian student identify and explain the three main ways used by Europeans to establish the colonial economy in Africa.

9. During an African union meeting, leaders discuss why many African countries are still developing slowly. Some leaders argue that the long-term effects of colonialism continue to affect African’s economy. They proposed that African countries should streghthen unity and cooperation to overcome these challenges. Use your knowledge of impact of colonialism in Africa explain six reasons why African countries should unite to promote faster economic development.

10. After the Second World War, African colonies began movements to free themselves from colonial domination. Ghana distinguished itself by becoming the first nation to achieve independence. Identify and explain six factors that contributed to Ghana’s early success in this struggle.

11. Professor Kajiru visited the Nok site in Nigeria to explore the ancient knowledge of iron technology, which was highly developed in that region. As a tour guide from nok site in Nigeria, explain to his family the ways in which the Nok people benefited from this technology. six reasons.
